Police have apprehended a total of 54,907 illegal border crossers so far this year compared with 17,000 at this point in 2020.
A group of 15 migrants tried to enter Hungary at Ásotthalom at 8.40pm on Tuesday, spraying uniformed officers protecting the border with a gas spray from the Serbian side.
