“Hungary still stands alone with its pro-peace stance. The Russia-Ukraine conflict does not have a solution on the battlefield,” Balázs Orbán said.
The foreign minister said many of Europe’s political leaders are under the influence of “a war psychosis”.
The foreign minister said a political change in Washington could resolve this crisis, noting that the Abraham Accords brokered under Donald Trump’s presidency had resurrected the hope for peace.
The president expressed her hope that “the more people our call for peace reaches, the greater its effect is going to be”.
Hungary has an interest in an urgent peaceful settlement in Ukraine and the prevention of an interstate war in the Middle East.
Gergely Gulyás said Hungary deems Russia’s war in Ukraine unacceptable and sharply condemns it.
“For us, Hungarians and for the whole of Europe, it would be most important that the flow of refugees, the sanctions and the fighting should end in the neighboring country,” PM Orbán said.
Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky said the EU was “putting an enormous pressure on Hungary … to grant its approval to spending additional hundreds of millions of euros on weapons (to Ukraine)”.
The president said Russia wanted a long war, though any sign of a willingness on its part to explore a peace settlement must be grasped.
Minister Szijjártó said Qatar and Hungary had both been on the receiving end of “ruthless and unfounded attacks by the liberal mainstream” recently.
“There is only death on the battlefield, but no solution,” Tamás Menczer, the state secretary for bilateral relations, said.
The foreign minister said Hungary started building ties with Central Asia before other players and now enjoys a competitive advantage in a region of growing importance.
