The foreign minister said the “attacks” on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s peace mission to Kyiv, Moscow, Beijing and Florida had “failed”.
“They’re trying to destroy those who support peace, using every possible means," said Tamás Menczer.
The foreign minister said the EU’s Ukraine strategy had failed in the past two and a half years, arguing that peace was increasingly farther away.
State Secretary Barna Pál Zsigmond said Brussels is trying to blackmail Hungary “to side with the pro-war left”.
The foreign minister said Hungary had been living in the shadow of war for two and a half years and had been confronted with the direct consequences of the war.
At least two, but preferably three, must advocate for peace if there is a chance for the warring sides to move in the direction of peace rather than further escalation.
Minister Szijjártó said it was now “apparent to everybody” that the strategy of Europe and the United States over the past two and a half years didn’t work.
“It must have become apparent to everyone that the next six months will be a peace mission," the foreign minister said.
The foreign minister said that both countries supported making peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.
The prime minister said the reintroduction of mandatory military service was not on the agenda in Hungary.
Minister Szijjártó said Brussels “is enveloped in panic”, with only six days left before the EP elections.
Minister Szijjártó said that “the war express has pulled out of the penultimate station” and it is questionable if there was still a chance to stop it.
