The prime minister said, “the decision of Turkish voters and Turkey’s stability is good news for the whole of Europe”.
The prime minister congratulated the Turkish president on his victory and the outstanding success of his AK Party in the first round of Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
“Hungary is standing by Turkey at this tragic moment”, PM Orbán said, adding that he learnt about the disaster “with deep shock and sorrow”.
Hungary is asking Brussels to provide more direct financial support to Turkey in its fight against migration.
“Allow me, on behalf of the Hungarian people and in my own name, to express condolences to the families of the victims and wish a full and speedy recovery to the injured,” President Áder said.
Mid-February, the prime minister had already warned of increasing migration pressure. Today, his concern proved to be true, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed the current situation with him on a call.

During an official visit to Budapest, President Erdoğan said there are almost four million refugees currently residing in Turkey and many would set out for Europe.

In a joint press conference following the signing of ten bilateral agreements, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Hungary’s foreign policy thinking starts from the premise that without President Erdoğan’s Turkey, it is not possible to halt migration to Europe. Furthermore, PM Orbán touched upon cooperation between the two countries in terms of security, energy, and culture before closing with the topic of EU enlargement.
